As a global leader, the business requires a flexible recruitment solution to meet the agile requirements of their supply chain and have partnered with Smart Solutions on key distribution sites to meet their demanding recruitment requirements for several years.
What was the brief?
Our client has suffered with inconsistencies from agency support in the past, with issues relating to fulfilment and skills shortages. Headcount requirements can change at short notice, and with the requirement to maintain a consistent skill level across the workforce, business performance can be hindered by inconsistent recruitment partners. The brief for Smart was to address candidate pool requirements to meet fulfilment demands, but to also ensure any skills gaps were managed in the recruitment process.
The ‘Smart’ solution
Smart’s experience with managing high volume recruitment, along with the daily challenges that come with the changeable environments that we work in, meant we were well structured and experienced enough to quickly adapt to the business’ needs.
Our approach was to structure the account management team to include a mix of experienced senior managers, and to recruit for new account managers with the skillset and background to meet both Smart’s high standards and the requirements of our client.
Adopting an onsite recruitment model, we conducted detailed needs analysis with all hiring managers, full analysis of on-boarding and induction processes, and a full review of the candidate requirements.
Our constant recruitment efforts and tailored model generates a vast candidate pool that copes with the changing day to day headcount requirements. Our onsite presence has also meant that we are able to take full ownership of our temporary workers by offering our candidate care program, this not only aids our candidate attraction, but also enhances retention, ultimately leading to an efficient and successful workforce solution for the company.

Working with the client has resulted in 100% fulfilment of required job roles. After the success of our initial working relationship, we have continued to work together for more than eight years. We have helped improve other areas and implemented numerous staff engagement pieces including staff perks, which increased the retention rate dramatically. Our work with this client has also gained us a place on their PSL with the view to expand our ‘solution’ to additional depots across the UK.
